The Emotional Artist

I am a mixed media artist, I grew up in Kerry but now based in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan.

I studied at NCAD and graduated with a first class (Hons) degree in Textile Design/Art and Artefact. This was the culmination of a long journey of exploring art as a language of expression. Having previously attained a BA (Hons) Mgt with IMI and an MSc Communication from Queens University, as well as business counselling, NLP and legal Mediation; I was still curious about the intent or meaning beyond words; in particular, the complexities of stories, concepts, words, thoughts and feelings and the expression thereof. Through art I found that ‘words were not my first language!‘ hence the Emotional Artist.

Awards – The reassurance

I was selected for the student art awards at the RDS 2015 and selected for graduate showcase at the knitting and stitching show at the RDS. In 2015, I was also awarded a residency with Creative Spark and in 2016 a summer residency with An Táin Arts Centre. This afforded me the time to explore the rich heritage of County Louth and develop new ideas through some collaboration and community involvement. In August/September I had my first solo exhibition ‘Mi Camino a travé del Arte’ which invites the viewer to journey with me through the art works and to experience the issues and barriers posed during a period of change. This has since toured to different venues.
